Y-3 Turned Its Most Iconic Boot Into a Ballet-esque Sneaker Sandal
Hard to believe we’re talking about sandals already, but what’s the saying, “Better to have and not need”, and all that.
Adidas’ Y-3 GSG9 sandal is a little unusual in the sense that it’s a heavy-hitting sandal, ballet slipper and runner, all mashed together in an array of delightfully gorgeous neutrals. Meaning, this is a sandal you can wear again and again (and again) without judgment.
Yohji Yamamoto's Y-3 has long had a knack for pulling familiarities into high-fashion territory, as evidenced by the recent field-ready sneaker or the sneaker mule crossover.
Its next experiment is the GSG9 Sandal. Taking the label's most recognizable silhouette, that rugged, utilitarian boot, and injecting a little vitamin D into it.
A textile upper sits over a leather lining, with the chunky outsole doing what it always does: grounding something fashion-forward in something unmistakably functional. The Velcro closure keeps things easy, which feels almost rebellious for a shoe at this price point. Almost.
Too considered to be a casual summer slip-on, too relaxed to be taken entirely seriously, and yet, that's precisely the Y-3 sweet spot.
Available in both beige and black on adidas’ website, pick one. Or don't, decisiveness is overrated anyway.
