These days, it's almost impossible to predict what artists will wind up working together because nothing really makes sense anymore. 20ninescene has already been full of so many surprises, but none could have prepared us for Avril Lavigne recruiting Nicki Minaj on her new single “Dumb Blonde." Described in the accompanying press release as "sassy," the Mitch Allan-produced track is featured on the Canadian singer-songwriter's comeback album Head Above Water.

Lavigne recently tweeted about how the song serves as "an anthem for anyone who has been stereotyped or talked down to." A few months ago, she explained how it's also about "proving your worth" and promotes how "it’s ok to be strong as a woman." Minaj doesn't appear until the third verse where she spits lines like "When you see a young queen in the flesh, what's up?" and "I am the prototype, the pinkprint (uh-huh)/ And no, I don't want no frauds, wink, wink."

Minaj tweeted about the full-circle experience of going from being a longtime fan of Lavigne to working with her on the single. This marks the first time that Lavigne has collaborated with a rapper—the only features on her 2013 self-titled album were Marilyn Manson and her husband, Chad Kroeger of Nickelback.
