Carhartt WIP / Motown
1 / 20

Carhartt WIP is helping celebrate the 60th anniversary of Motown Records with a 13-piece capsule collection.

Founded in Detroit, Michigan in 1959 by Berry Gordy Jr., Motown largely changed the face of American music thanks to acts like Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson 5, and Marvin Gaye. In addition to reconfiguring what hits of that era sounded like, the label also played a pivotal role in diversifying American radio stations. The coinciding collection by Carhartt WIP draws from the imagery and ephemera found in Motown’s archive and back-catalogue.

The cover art and promo pictures for Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” influence a sateen bomber and rolled beanie, while aspects of Motown's history are referenced on a selection of graphic T-shirts and hoodies. The celebratory collection includes a co-branded record weight and a “lollipop” style DJ headphone by Japanese manufacturer Phonon as well.

Carhartt WIP's Motown capsule releases at Carhartt WIP stores, select retailers, and online November 14.
