Invader Pixelized the CDG Play Heart
COMME des GARÇONS keeps churning out cheery collaborations tailormade for its youthful fans, though the mainline CdG labels are also killing it this season. But this is about the ever-popular CDG Play sub-label and its new team-up with Invader, the French street artist who just gave the CDG Play heart logo a pixelized makeover.
CDG Play itself doesn't actually do all that many collaborations, though the ones that it does do are pretty major.
There's obviously the CDG Play x Converse Chuck Taylors in all their various forms, perhaps the most popular piece of clothing to bear the COMME des GARÇONS name. In fact, there's now a variety of new CDG Play Converse sneakers available, hinting at a deeper team-up in the not-so-distant future.
There was even a few CDG Play Grinch T-shirts several years back.
In the past, CDG Play has also collaborated with K-Way on packable jackets and both Nike and The North Face on branded T-shirts.
It ain't terribly exciting but it is what people want, presumably.
Now, CDG Play is partnering with artist Invader for a collection of remixed CDG Play staples, including cardigans, shirts, and tees stitched with the unmistakable CDG Play heart patch.
For the first time, the Filip Pagowski-designed heart is gone, however, replaced with a custom-designed pixel version in the style of Invader's inimitable 8-bit artworks.
It follows the artist's recent COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT collection, which swapped logos for prints of blocky Invader illustrations atop the versatile wardrobe staples that inform much of COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT's output.
Simultaneously, COMME des GARÇONS' streetwear-leaning CDG sub-label is dropping a Pokémon collaboration that focuses entirely on Pikachu-centric graphic design and BLACK COMME des GARÇONS issued yet another Nike team-up, creating a wealth of ultra-casual CDG apparel for younger consumers.
Oh, and I didn't even mention CDG's latest BAPE collection.
Suffice to say, there's an embarrassment of riches for casual CDG fans and, for the heads, there's some especially good stuff from COMME des GARÇONS' mainline HOMME and HOMME PLUS lines.
