Netflix has landed the rights to a new comedy starring Jermaine Fowler. Titled Cocaine Hippos, the movie is inspired by the hippopotamuses Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar smuggled from Africa to Colombia in the 1980s.

Jordan VanDina is writing the script for Cocaine Hippos, as the film centers around a group of friends in search of Escobar's lost treasure. During their action-packed journey, they come face to face with local drug lords, con men, and deadly hippopotamuses. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the overall tone for the movie is being described as The Hangover meets Tropic Thunder.

The story for Cocaine Hippos also comes from VanDina, while Adam Goodman is producing the movie along with Matt Skiena and Fowler. The picture draws from real life events including what happened to the hippopotamuses following Escobar's death in 1993. All of the animals Escobar brought to his home in Colombia in the '80s were either sold or taken to zoos, except the hippopotamuses who were left alone to populate.
