Editor's Notes: Converse has been making sneakers since 1908, but you will struggle to find something similar to its latest release in the archives. The Aeon Active CX shows the American brand delivering a futuristic, bulky sneaker that's a long way from your everyday Chuck 70s.

From Givenchy's soleless designs to YEEZY's space-age boots, we've seen a number of brands create footwear that looks as though it comes from a far-away age, and this is Converse's prediction for where the future of sneakers is headed.

The shoe's latest colorways arrive after a highly-anticipated A-COLD-WALL* collaboration that added recycled crater foam to the model. When they released, A-COLD-WALL* founder and creative director Samuel Ross told us that, "we are balancing the fringes of bleeding-edge design whilst deepening our focus on function," and it's an ethos that rings true with this release.

This time dropping as a standalone Converse sneaker, and not as part of a collaboration, there are a few changes made from that pair that we first saw. Most notably, this time around the shoe has laces, although you will hardly notice them as the focus is still on the stretch bootie construction that forms its upper and simplifies slipping the shoe on and off.

Along with the sock-like construction, there is a focus on new technologies throughout the sneaker. It arrives as part of Converse's CX line, which focuses at its core on creating the most comfortable designs possible with the latest innovations the brand has to hand.

For this sneaker, a sculpted midsole and visible outsole crafted from CX foam do much of the heavy lifting when it comes to comfort, combining to create a cushioned ride.

Available now at the Highsnobiety Shop, you can find the Converse Aeon Active CX in two colorways: a more summer-centered white variation dubbed "Obsidian Mist" and a pastel-hued "Egret/Pale Putty/Light Silver" version.
