Today Universal Pictures gives us our first look at Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Dolittle in director Stephen Gaghan’s upcoming remake, simply titled Dolittle. A fantasy reimagining of the classic tale of the man who can talk to animals, Downey is joined by a star-studded cast that includes Tom Holland, Rami Malek, Craig Robinson, Octavia Spencer, Emma Thompson, Antonio Banderas, John Cena, Ralph Fiennes, Selena Gomez, and more.

Dolittle picks up as Dr. John Dolittle (Downey), doctor and veterinarian of Queen Victoria’s England, has become a hermit following the death of his wife several years prior. Now, he merely enjoys the company of his gang of exotic animals inside the confines of Dolittle Manor. Dolittle is forced to reenter the world, however, when the young queen becomes sick and he is tasked with finding a cure.

Harry Collett is Dr. Dolittle's self-appointed apprentice in Dolittle, while Rami Malek voices an anxious gorilla, Octavia Spencer voices an enthusiastic duck, Kumail Nanjiani voices a cynical ostrich, John Cena voices an upbeat polar bear, and Emma Thompson voices a headstrong parrot. Downey also serves as an executive producer for the film, which is due in theaters January 9.
