Next week, a joint mission between NASA and Elon Musk's SpaceX will send two astronauts, Bob Behnken and Douglas G. Hurley, to the International Space Station. The event will be covered on the National Geographic cable network and streamed on ABC News Live.

The two-hour-long “Launch America: Mission to Space Live” special will air at 3 p.m. Eastern on May 27.  If successful, the mission will make history as the first privately owned company to take humans to the International Space Station.

“This is the perfect moment to remind viewers everywhere about the power of the human spirit and how science is leading the way forward,” said Geoff Daniels of the National Geographic.

Musk still has his sights firmly set on Mars, recently announcing that he is "selling almost all physical possessions." “Don’t need the cash. Devoting myself to Mars and Earth. Possession just weigh you down” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, NASA is also preparing to send humans to Mars. It recently announced that it wants to hire a handful of suitable humans to spend 8 months in isolation in a mock spacecraft to “study the effects of isolation.” Find out if you meet the requirements here.
