Fidan Novruzova's collaborative ASICS dad shoes aren't just dressy. They pretty much sum up the current state of the sneaker game.

The independent designer has reworked the GEL-CUMULUS 16, maintaining the utilitarian look of ASICS' typically technical shoe but adding a large leather foldover tongue topped with oversized tassels to create a kiltie-fied running shoe.

Fidan Novruzova was already quite well-known for otherworldly footwear favored by oft-street-styled celebs like Solange and Bella Hadid. The Central Saint Martin grad's boots and shoes are distinguished by square toes, deliberately wrinkled leathers, and the occasional gradient hue. Sometimes, they'll even sport leather tassels, bringing a touch of menswear to its womenswear inclinations.

With the ASICS collab, Novruzova offers business up top and a classic dad shoe party in the basement.

Her preferred colorways, classic black and burgundy, speak to this air of biz-cas cool (both are now available on the brand's website for €260.00 or around $300).

Fidan Novruzova's ASICS collab pretty much says it all. We're in a post-sneaker society, folks.

Or are we?

Over the past year, we've witnessed the most classic sneakers take an unexpected route toward dress-shoe-ification, reimagined with formal-leaning details or either going full dress-shoe mode.

Some brands are creating literal dress shoes based on their most popular styles, resulting in models like the New Balance 1906 loafer and Nike's Air Max RK61or brogue'd Dunk, for that matter — though they still maintain sneaker-y roots through technical details.

Other sneakers take a less drastic route to the same destination, wearing luxurious materials similar to those found on dressier leather-soled silhouettes. Even the simple square toe that's been becoming more and more common in sneakerdom feels like a sign of the times.

In the case of Fidan Novruzov's ASICS sneaker, all it takes is a chunk of leather and some tassels.
