Miami may be known for its glitz and glamour, but it’s also a booming hub for soccer culture to thrive. Take Miami bred Florencia Galarza for example; whose unique style, unforgiving attitude, and unwavering dedication to soccer led her to an unconventional career path in the sport. In the first of a three-part video series with EA SPORTS FIFA 20, Highsnobiety is highlighting local talent breaking new ground in the Miami soccer scene while underscoring street soccer elements at the heart of the latest FIFA 20 title.

Not only is Galarza a rising figure in pro-soccer — having turned pro at 30 and now playing for the Argentine National Team, where her family is from — the multi-hyphenate can be found DJing swanky New York City hotspots like Le Bain in her down time, and has even strutted the catwalk at New York Fashion Week for a VFILES show.

We connected with Galarza in Miami for an intimate conversation touching on everything from her near career-ending injury at the age of 17, to why she’s breaking the mold and redefining a woman’s image in professional sports. “Even though I was a little tomboy at home, I always had these women who were so beautiful and fabulous [around me],” explains Galarza.

So I can do both, there’s no reason why not. I never believed in those barriers and rules, if I wanna wear a dress and be a badass soccer player, I’m gonna do that.
