HUBLOT and Takashi Murakami Are Officially In Their Bling Era
HUBLOT and Takashi Murakami are back with another icy collaborative timepiece, bringing back the highly-coveted MP-15 for a limited release.
The HUBLOT x Takashi Murakami MP-15 again wears the artist's ubiquitous "smiling flower" across its case. Resting on the wrist at 42mm, the twelve petals of the watch include 444 colorful gemstones to create an eye-catching rainbow gradient across the watch's sapphire case.
Aside from its rainbow colorway, the star of the show, for us watch nerds, has to be the HUB9015 central flying tourbillon smiling back at you on the watch. A first for HUBLOT, the complication packs some impressive engineering that translates to about five days of power while you're out taking wrist rolls with your watch.
This isn't HUBLOT's and Takashi Murakami's first rodeo. The duo has been releasing a steady stream of "art-watches" since the start of their partnership in 2021. Even more so, the Swiss watchmaker has been one of a handful of brands exploring this intersection of high horology and art in compelling ways, with the HUBLOT x Daniel Arsham being one of the standouts of the year.
As for today's drop, seeing Murakami's floral motif take the form of a tourbillon makes my early 2010s streetwear/watch enthusiast inner child very happy (imagine wearing this while listening to Kanye West's Graduation.).
Getting your hands on this art-watch timepiece looks like it will be tricky. The HUBLOT x Takashi Murakami MP-15 collaboration is limited to just 20 pieces, with a price tag of $374,000.
