Instagram Will Start Hiding Likes in the US From Next Week
Instagram will begin to test hiding likes in the US, beginning next week. Following promising trials in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Ireland, Italy, and Brazil, Instagram's CEO, Adam Mosseri announced that private like-count testing would begin for some US users as early as next week.
Speaking at WIRED25W Mosseri spoke to Tracee Ellis Ross and WIRED's Arielle Pardes about how the move aims to "de-pressurize Instagram" to "give people more space to connect." Watch below.
There is a growing body of research and a lot of anecdotal evidence which points to the negative impact social media is having on our mental health. It is, however, too early to tell if Instagram's new denitrification will alleviate some of the negative effects.
