Double Tap to Zoom

First, it was in a disused department store, then it moved to everything from a former car park to Berlin’s largest ballroom. Now, we’re onto the fifth edition of Intervention, a cultural festival run by communications agency Reference Studios during Berlin Fashion Week, and yet another historic Berlin building is being utilized.

In Kraftwerk, an ex-East German power station turned transdisciplinary cultural events space, February 2 sees the Intervention fashion show program transpire, but not until a TED talk has concluded. That's because Intervention marks TED’s first time introducing fashion and design into its programming through a three-hour series of panels, including everyone from French fashion collective Air Afrique to designer Edward Buchanan, who was Bottega Veneta's first creative director.

Then, the fashion shows begin.

This year's runway programming combines a mix of homegrown Berlin talent in the buzzy politically active fashion label GmbH and the grundgy streetwear brand Dagger, alongside the international talents of Nigerian designer Kenneth Ize, Kampala-based BUZIGAHILL, and Tokyo’s JOHN LAWRENCE SULLIVAN.

Next door in the nightclub Tresor, there’s a listening lounge curated by Berlin DJ collective and record label LIVE FROM EARTH to enjoy.

Plus, in the lead-up to the one-day festival, opening on January 30, LIVE FROM EARTH hosts the Doofer Street Market, an experiential pop-up which promises to be part exhibition, part gathering, part performance space.

Over the past five editions, Intervention has established itself as a definitive moment in Berlin’s burgeoning fashion week by attracting notable names who’d normally present at the more established fashion weeks and hosting surprising events... like the first-ever fashionable TED talk.
