Jennifer Lopez and fiancé Alex Rodriguez are making moves to buy the New York Mets. According to Variety, the power couple is working with JPMorgan Chase on financing to purchase the team.

The New York Mets are currently owned by the Wilpon Family, who was previously in talks with minority owner Steve Cohen to buy the Major League Baseball team, which is valued at $2.6 billion. The deal ultimately fell through, opening the door for other hopefuls including Lopez and Rodriguez.

The couple's net worth is reportedly around $700 million, so they would need a bit of help purchasing the franchise. It isn't uncommon, however, for celebrities to buy a minority stake in a professional sports team and subsequently become the face of the organization. A-Rod's former teammate Derek Jeter has done this with the Miami Marlins, as he owns four percent of the team and handles business and baseball operations.

A former MLB standout, Rodriguez could have signed with the Mets back in 2000, but instead, he opted to ink an insane $252 million deal with the Texas Rangers. He then went on to win a World Series with the New York Yankees. Furthermore, Lopez is from the Bronx, which is the home of the Yankees, the crosstown rival of the Mets.
