John Legend has taken to Twitter to address his appearance on Lifetime's new Surviving R. Kelly documentary series, stating that he does not consider himself brave for taking part in the show, which chronicles the sexual assault and pedophilia allegations made against R. Kelly.

The reason? "I believe these women and don't give a fuck about protecting a serial child rapist."

According to Pitchfork, filmmaker and show producer Dream Hampton revealed that she had reached out to figures such as Lady Gaga, JAY-Z, Erykah Badu, and Dave Chapelle, all of whom worked artistically with Kelly in the past, but said that “most people just don’t want to touch it."

The first episodes of Surviving R. Kelly aired last night. The series continues tonight, and the final two episodes will air on Saturday.
