As part of his Forbes cover story that landed earlier this week, Kanye West also took part in a video interview that dives into how he goes about designing new Yeezy sneaker silhouettes. Watch above.

When asked how the process starts, West explained that, "It could start with a sketch. It could start with a vintage reference. It could start with a previous shoe that we created that we're making a newer version of."

He then goes on to discuss the movies and experiences that influence his creative designs. The Japanese animated movie Akira, for example, is a huge reference point for him. "My mom took me to see the movie when I was really young and the shapes and the color palette and the general mood of the film have always been a big inspiration for Yeezy."

West also cites going to auto trade shows with his dad as a kid as influencing his style too, highlighting the moment he saw a white Lamborghini Countach for the first time as a major lightbulb moment. "There's a little bit of Lamborghini in everything I do. Yeezy is the Lamborghini of shoes."
