Double Tap to Zoom

It’s been nearly three years since Bronx-bred rapper Kemba switched his rap moniker from “YC The Cynic.” While his name is somewhat new, the 28-year-old artist has been on the rap scene since 2013 and has been compared to the likes of Kendrick Lamar in terms of his raw lyricism.

After a fateful appearance on HOT 97’s Real Late with Peter Rosenberg in December 2016 where he delivered a fiery freestyle, he began getting noticed within the rap world. To celebrate the late nights it took Kemba to climb the rap game, we linked with adidas Originals to highlight the all-new Nite Jogger created specifically for nightly pursuits.

Although Kemba kept a relatively low profile last year releasing just a few tracks, he kicked off 2019 with a fresh single called “Deadass” and evokes the essence of New York hip-hop.

Watch Kemba take over Nite Shift Studios for an intimate performance of “Deadass” as he opens up about why the late night is his time to shine.

I feel like during the day there’s so much energy going around that people are using, like a finite amount, and at night when everybody goes to sleep that energy is free to use. So I always get a jolt of creative inspiration and energy, so I’m always creating at night.
