Double Tap to Zoom

You thought balletcore had reached its apex? Think again. If anything, its true force is only now being unleashed, with brands all across the spectrum, from high end to high street releasing their very own ballet sneakers, from last year's Sandy Liang Salomons to more recent Yohji and Bad Bunny iterations for adidas.

The trend has now claimed its latest victim: LOEWE. Perhaps to be considered a parting gift ahead of his rumored departure for Dior, Jonathan Anderson wanted to leave us with one last bestseller to conclude his long list of hits.

Technically ahead of its time, the Ballet Runner 2.0 is the new and improved version of a 2019 predecessor that, as its name suggests, sought to cross-breed a running shoe with a ballerina flat.

Available in a range of material and color combinations – all-over suede or nylon blends, in Samba-esque black and white, or browns, blues and grays – the rollout for LOEWE's Ballet Runner 2.0 sneaker feels like preparation for heavy demand.

Perhaps it's too early to say, as the latest LOEWE shoe only just released on the luxury label's web store but it does make sense when examined against the broader footwear backdrop. We're seeing a noticeable movement away from gaudy, chunky designer stompers and toward luxuriously low profile footwear from designer labels like Dries Van Noten and Miu Miu x New Balance.

From Speedcats to Margielas, slender shoes have been staging a quiet coup. LOEWE might've just appointed this new regime's next leader.
