Contemporarily speaking, nothing beats a conscious fit, and New Balance seems to have caught on.

After proving its versatility through collaborations that flex high-tech construction and elevated design with the likes of Aimé Leon Dore and Stray Rats, New Balance has shifted its focus inwards to strive towards something a bit more sustainable with its green leaf standard.

Utilizing its iconic 574 silhouette, New Balance transforms an enduring sneaker that, at its roots, was always meant to be changeable. Born in 1988, the 574 was originally designed as a casual, yet durable running sneaker with added comfort.

Throughout the years, the sneaker has proved useful everywhere from the road to the trails and everything in between – it’s even survived the “Dad shoe” craze that emphasized the 574's unpretentious character and ultra sensibility. But today, its profile may be best understood as a vintage-inspired lifestyle sneaker.

Now, under the green leaf standard, the 574 Core takes on an added identity yet again as it's made partly with environmentally preferred materials. The reinvented shoe features an upper is made from 50% or more recycled, leather that supports more responsible manufacturing through The Leather Working Group, and an outsole material that contains 5% recycled content.

Staying true to its roots as an all-time classic, the reimagined 574 Core comes in staple color-ways including gray – or what NB has dubbed “the greenest grey yet”. Learn more about New Balance’s green leaf standard at newbalance.com/env.
