Nicole McLaughlin once reworked old backpacks into the perhaps the most practical jackets yet. The DIY princess' next project? She's transforming classic skate shoes into backpacks...for the feet!

In 2023, McLaughlin and Vans combined minds for multi-pocket Slip-ons inspired by garden totes. The pair are now back together for another Slip-on sneaker collaboration. The latest collab sticks to the same function-meets-nature essence as before, but under a new theme: rucksacks.

McLaughlin essentially redesigns the Vans Slip-on RS with these small albeit neat rucksack pockets on the toe, complete with adjustable nylon webbing. The clever detail looks to carry small essentials or even shrunken fishing rods and tiny camping items like those in the official campaign. Nice.

Moreover, McLaughlin's Vans sneaker features waterproof, eco-friendly canvas uppers. The shoes are also made with a lugged sole ready to grip various surfaces, from crisp concrete to crunchy trails (if you dare).

McLaughlin has quite literally transformed Vans' most iconic skate shoe into a legit outdoor-ready stepper. And it ain't the first time (probably not the last, either).

The designer has also reimagined Crocs clogs and HOKA sneakers in the name of upcycling and adventure. Long before these collabs, McLaughlin regularly went viral for her re-crafted creations like Jansport panties and golfball mittens, pieces which probably caught the eye of future collaborators like Vans.

Speaking of the skate shoe brand, McLaughlin and Vans have also prepared a legit Rucksack that can also be used as a climbing chalk bag. The latest collection also includes socks with cargo-style pockets, aptly named the "Rucksock."

The Nicole McLaughlin x Vans collection, outdoorsy skate shoes included, is scheduled to drop on February 26 on McLaughlin's website. There will be another drop at Vans on February 27.
