Nike's 2024 retro revival peaked elsewhere but the Nike ACG Exploraid re-release was one of the year's quietest killer sneakers, rebirthing a classic trail shoe for the modern age.

Despite a relative lack of hype, the ACG Exploraid is perhaps one of Nike's best-looking trail shoes, a masterpiece of streamlined paneling and weight.

With Nike branding relegated solely to the lace-covered tongue and ACG-branded heel, the Exploraid sneaker is fairly understated in its best colorways, which range from a couple neutral-toned examples to this especially scrumptious all-beige beauty, a triumph of textural perfection.

Yes, the "Flax" ACG Exploraid hits a perfect sweet spot.

If there was any doubt that Nike shoes always look best in earth tones, let there henceforth be none.

Available on Nike's website for the terrifically reasonable price of $98.97, the "Flax" ACG Exploraid is a tasteful blend of retro accents that meld into a remarkably smooth package, despite some intentionally odd design cues.

For instance, the sneaker's upper comprises a host of stacked sections that pile on mesh and leather into a satisfyingly strange swerve of materials, yielding a curvaceous shape unlike most other trail shoes out there.

There's so much going on there that the flattening effect provided by the tonal "Flax" colorway only serves to make it look that much more complex and approachable at the same time.

As a result, the sneaker is as strikingly stylish as any of Nike's more modern ACG shoes.

With Nike's throwback drops coming hot and heavy from both mainline Swoosh and the always classic-minded Jordan Brand, it's nice that some undersung Nike sneakers are also getting their time in the sun. It's about time to explore the Exploraid.
