There’s something about a properly technical-looking sneaker that becomes even more appealing when the weather makes itself known. The Nike ACG Pegasus Trail GORE-TEX looks like it has absolutely no problem with a bit of rain or general outdoor unpleasantness, but also happens to look pretty good running errands around town, too.

The colorway helps. Gridiron and Cream II give the shoe that suitably stormy feel, while little hits of Racer Blue keep all the darkness from becoming too serious. It’s rugged without going full hiking boot, which is exactly where we like our trail sneakers to sit.

The Pegasus Trail has that layered, slightly chunky shape that makes technical sneakers so appealing in the first place. There’s plenty happening across the upper, but it doesn’t feel overworked. Instead, it has the kind of outdoorsy look that works just as well with loose pants and a jacket as it does when you’re actually heading somewhere muddy.

And then there’s the GORE-TEX, which feels particularly useful once fall decides to do what fall does best. Rain is considerably less annoying when your sneakers aren’t immediately soaking through.

Basically, this is a trail runner with enough city sense to make it out of the woods. It looks ready for a questionable weather forecast, but you certainly don’t need a hiking trip planned to justify wearing it.
