Nike’s Wonderfully Textural Air Max? It’s for Padres
Nike and Major League Baseball (MLB) have come together to create a beautiful Air Max 1 sneaker for the San Diego Padres.
Seriously. The collaborative Air Max 1 is quite the beauty, featuring a colorful design and extremely nice textures. Loads of baseball energy, too.
Nike updates the model's signature layered upper to feature creamy leather, hairy suede, and classic mesh. It's all splashed with navy blue, orange, purple, and mint green, vibrant colors which play on the Padres' alternate uniforms. They're a stark, colorful flip from the team's standard gear, which comes in white, brown, and gold.
There's also plenty of other neat Easter eggs for baseball heads, like the MLB logo lace charm and generous Padre stamps throughout. There's also a potential tie to Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, as suggested with the floral skull figure on the insoles (the skull, or calvadera, is famously associated with the holiday).
Although celebrations don't kick off until November, Nike and MLB are getting in the holiday spirit early. The Air Max 1 "San Diego Padres" sneaker is expected to drop sometime in April on Nike's website.
Oh, how these would've been a great Air Max Day drop. Then again, Nike already blessed us with many other great releases, like the "Pink Foam" Air Max 95s and the debut of the all-new Air Liquid Max.
But when you're from a line as famous as the Air Max series, every day is Air Max Day.
