Nike’s Zoom Vomero 5 model was only just taken from the realm of technical-looking running shoes and put onto the shelves of fashionable boutiques a few years ago. And, in that short time, we’ve regularly found ourselves swooning over the Vomero's typically understated colorways.

Whether it be luxe leather upgrades courtesy of Nike Design by Japan or simple all-black builds, the classic sneaker rarely fails to impress. However, Nike's Vomero colorways are (almost) always a muted or at least neutral-toned affair.

So, you can imagine my surprise when stumbling across the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 in a crisp racer blue colorway.

Truly, this new iteration of Nike's retro-looking Vomero sneaker is everything but a throwback.

The minty bold blue hue (reminiscent of the one A-COLD-WALL* recently added to the Nike Air Max Plus) covers the Vomero's entire paneled upper and sole, the only hit of contrast coming by way of the Nike swoosh that's seen here in a metallic silver color. 

Having been teased for a couple of months, Nike's latest Vomero shoe colorway is now approaching its release on July 1 at sneaker stores such as Asphalt Gold.

It retails for $160 and is only being released in women's sizing (please Nike, this is my formal appeal for this colorway to also be released in men's sizing).

The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 is one of many shoes that have gone from being a comfortable but unstylish Y2K sports shoe (aka a dad shoe) to a bonafide fashionable sneaker with old-school charm and new-school tech.

This blue colorway, in many ways, strips the shoe of its old-school charm, however, it gives it a bold new look.

In this case, the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 is elderly no more.
