Prada Re-Nylon Is Serious About the Sea
Sustainability and luxury haven’t always gone hand in hand. Prada has taken it upon themselves to change that. With Re-Nylon, the Italian fashion luxury house has created a new way of looking after the future without sacrificing your look.
First off, let’s talk about Re-Nylon. If you’ve been sleeping on this, here’s a little breakdown: it’s Prada’s genius move of turning discarded fishing nets, plastic waste, and textile fibers into the fabric of the future—Something the brand has been doing since 2019.
Then there’s this season’s Prada Re-Nylon for SEA BEYOND capsule collection, designed to change the way we think about sustainability in fashion. The five-piece capsule comprises backpacks, drawstring bags, hooded jackets and hats, all made with the signature Re-Nylon fabric. At the end of its lifecycle, the product is designed to be repurposed and reborn as something new.
These pieces come in the usual Prada Re-Nylon color palette: black, Baltic blue, and white, but also with four new colorways: emerald, celeste blue, yellow, and orange. With every item in the Re-Nylon for SEA BEYOND capsule, customers will also receive a series of ocean themed questions, developed in collaboration with UNESCO. This is Prada’s effort to help us reflect on the importance of ocean preservation, and what we can do, either as individuals or corporations, to help out.
This all comes with some serious tech. With an NFC tag embedded in each piece, you can access the Aura Consortium platform to track everything about your product and its key components: its origins, its carbon footprint, and everything in between. Want to know how much water was used in production? Or how much CO2 was emitted? It’s all there. Plus, you’ll get a Digital Certificate of Ownership on the blockchain and complimentary repairs for four years.
Prada’s Re-Nylon for SEA BEYOND capsule ultimately sets a new standard for circular luxury. When you’re finished wearing your bag or jacket, you can return it to Prada stores, where it can be transformed back into new premium-grade ECONYL® yarn and reintroduced into the production cycle. It’s a forward-thinking approach that not only reduces waste but actively redefines how luxury fashion can exist within a truly circular economy.
