This year has seen the PUMA Mostro sneaker return from the German sportswear giant’s vast archives in a big way.

And, in turn, that makes this summer the PUMA Mostro’s first one back in the limelight since its Y2K heyday — an occasion that PUMA is celebrating with a season-appropriate release.

The latest Mostro is, according to PUMA, reimagined as a second skin and it comes with a perforated leather base on the upper.

This fabric choice makes the velcro-strapped sneaker more breathable than its regular, un-perforated counterpart and offers a new, textured look.

The sneaker’s new makeup isn’t necessarily the most eccentric, especially when compared to the spiky 3-D printed Mostros or sci-fi-inspired colorways we’ve seen from previous releases, however, it does suit the slim-profile sneaker well.

The perforated Mostro will be released in two monochromatic colorways on July 13 via the Highsnobiety Shop alongside select retailers.

The spiky-soled sneaker, a silhouette inspired by sprinting spikes of the '60s and the chilled-out surfing shoes of the '80s, did recently get treated to a similar perforated treatment at the hands of Berlin-based independent label Ottolinger. However, while those silver-colored sneakers are made to stand out, this is one of the first times that the Mostro looks quite lowkey.
