Editor’s Notes: After months of leaks and teasers, Salehe Bembury finally officially unveiled his collaborative New Balance 2002. The co-branded sneaker follows the recent relaunch of the mainline 2002R model, which has also been collaborated on by This Is Never That. Bembury’s version features large-hole mesh, a hallmark of ’00s performance running shoes, and is inspired by the great outdoors.
Speaking to FootwearNews, the footwear guru and current vice president of sneakers and men’s footwear at Versace explained his initial inspiration behind the new design. “The collaboration was inspired by my recent attraction and time spent in nature. Since moving to the West Coast, I’ve really got to take advantage of all the National Parks in close proximity — Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, Antelope Canyon, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite Park."
The Salehe Bembury x New Balance 2002 will be released on October 23 at select retailers worldwide.
