UGG is quietly hitting the sneaker trail hard.

And literal trails, too: the UGG CapTrail sneaker is a surprisingly sublime heavyweight sneaker useful for outdoor and indoor stunting.

Debuted by UGG Japan and singer Hokuto Yoshino, the UGG CapTrail is a massively beefy sneaker that's almost bootlike in its hugeness.

There's a tremendously textured midsole that gives the shoe its core chunk, a design element that appears to be lifted from some of UGG's other recent footwear innovations (a welcome bit of borrowing, cuz those are quite good).

And, above, a very '90s-feeling and water-resistant upper plays with an extended mudguard and inorganic panels that create a bit of color-blocking, depending on the model.

UGG is also releasing this beast in monochrome because, yeah, why not? This sort of shoe speaks for itself regardless of color.

The CapTrail's huge silhouette is a nice hybridization of UGG's innate brand language — big, comfy shoes — with some new-school updates reframing the entire proposition.

That is to say: you prolly don't expect UGG to turn out megaweighty hike shoes with retro skate shoe design heritage, huh?

But you probably don't expect that from the skate shoe brands, either, and yet here we are.

Currently only available on UGG's Japanese site for a hefty ¥ 25,300 (about $160), expect the CapTrail to stomp overseas in due time.

It's too good not to.
