For his latest collaboration with adidas, Willy Chavarria called upon NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's signature namesake shoe. Stripping these already simplistic basketball kicks down even further, the designer turned an athlete's sneaker into elegantly understated footwear.

In either an all-black or all-white color scheme with gold embossments, this version of the adidas Jabbar has Willy Chavarria's romantic handwriting all over it. Quite literally.

Willy Chavarria's Jabbar sneakers, releasing December 12 for $160, are comfortably tucked into a whole collection of jointly designed adidas gear, ranging from sweatshirts to track pants and even dresses.

Just like the clothes in question, the titular sneaker draws from references above and beyond the blueprint's actual origins, in and outside of sports, including Pachuco culture and other heritage themes of Chavarria's.

With its draped fold-over tongue and monochrome appearance, this Jabbar leans heavier into football footwear, specifically the adidas Samba, than basketball.

But if all that amounts to shoes this pretty, not even Kareem himself could get too mad about that.
