Apple's iPad is finally ditching iOS for its own operating system called iPadOS. Announced during the tech company's WWDC 2019 event, Tim Cook and the gang previewed the new powerful operating system and the many features that comes with it.

The first thing users will notice about iPadOS when they boot up their hardware is an updated home screen. Its been redesigned with a new layout to show more apps on each page alongside widgets (finally!) including headlines, weather, calendar, events, and more.

Multitasking gestures have also been tweaked to add more windows and fluid commands at your finger tips. iPad users can now work with multiple files and documents from the same app simultaneously, quickly view and switch between multiple apps in Slide Over, and use App Exposé, which can open windows for any one app with a simple tap. This will make sending emails or taking down notes a breeze.

This also coincides with the improved text editing coming to iPadOS. The major update makes it easier and faster to select text with a swipe and use new gestures to cut, copy, paste, and undo. Along with finger gestures, the Apple Pencil received new enhanced gestures allowing users the ability to mark up and send entire webpages, documents or emails on iPad by swiping Apple Pencil from the corner of the screen. Like many new features, this update provides faster, easier, and more efficient ways to use the device.

Other small updates to iPadOS include dark mode, custom fonts, floating keyboard, an improved Maps app, and more.
