At Coachella, GAP Proved the Hoodie Still Reigns

In a festival like Coachella which is brimming with brand activations, GAP’s Hoodie House is a standout experience — and trust us, we checked. For one, its bold blue hues and cubicle structure give off the aura of an art installation set up against the dry, mountainous, desert backdrop. But it was also the longest line Highsnobiety witnessed all weekend, so it’s safe to say the fans agree.

At the Hoodie House, festival-goers get to create their own unique piece of merch. You can choose from multiple options of the iconic GAP hoodie: a cropped fit zip-up, a regular length hoodie, or a regular length zip-up, in either navy, grey, or black, all with the iconic arch “GAP” logo replaced with the Coachella stamp. You also get to choose from two patches (we got one simple square “Coachella 2026” badge, a Ferris wheel patch, and a Gap x Coachella patch … because we begged for three), zip ornaments in gold and silver (shaped like a piece sign and star burst), and beads you can add to the draw strings of your hoodie. The process was simple, using a large heat press to decorate the fabric, and of course, some creativity.

The space itself, in electric blue,  is decorated with oversized vinyl records from artists who have collaborated with GAP in the past — like Katseye, N.E.R.D, TYLA, and even legends we forgot had lent their voice and dance moves to the brand like Cher and Madonna. Additionally, fans can pose for a Polaroid moment snapped by a member of the GAP creative team and grab some goodies with a claw machine,

But the best part of Highsnobiety’s all-access tour of the neon-lit Hoodie House was chatting with the fashion-forward about their love of GAP and, of course, the closet staple itself. “I got a bigger one, so it’s oversized,” one fan told us. “Something to remember Coachella with. I got a patch that says ‘see you in the desert,’ which I absolutely love.” She was also down to talk about why the retailer keeps her shopping cart full: “I have a pair of their baggy jeans that I wear every single day. They make me feel confident, they make me feel comfortable. I’m obsessed with them. That’s what I think of when I think of GAP. Comfortable. Diverse. Amazing!” The Hoodie House also gave her the chance to replace a once-loved hoodie. “I had a hoodie from my ex,” she laughs. “I loved that it was oversized and baggy, and now that we’re not together, I have this one. That’s my fun story!” A fan named Carla, whose goal for her hoodie was to make sure it was “super comfy so you can travel in it,” also had a romantic slant to her zip-up story: “I love borrowing a hoodie but also sharing one. I got a large so my husband can wear it also.”

Outside in the sprawling line, we caught up with a group of four friends who had countless reasons for pausing the music for a moment to grab a custom hoodie. “I love an oversized fit so I look like Justin Bieber, you know? Like how he looked last night,” one said of the headliner’s on-stage fit. Her friend agreed, sharing that she wanted to “manifest a JB future.” “I want to become Hailey Bieber, and I think the way to do that is to sport an oversized hoodie, so thank you GAP!” she smiled. All jokes aside, the group also had nostalgic memories tied to their love for the brand. “I was a dancer growing up, and I’d always throw on my GAP hoodie to go to dance and leave dance. Perfect to throw over everything, and you can make it sporty and still look so cute.” Two of the BFFs also shared a memory from when they were just 10 years old. “I was with my best friend Sophia, we were with her grandma, and went on a huge GAP shopping spree. It was a back-to-school sale, and we got all of our fourth-grade outfits. It was very exciting.”

GAP’s integral tie to music, both live at Coachella and through their star-studded campaigns, was also felt in the Hoodie House line. “When I think of GAP, I think of Troye Sivan dancing, or the Katseye ad,” one festival-goer told us. “I’d kill to be dancing in the background of one of those.”

As another GAP shopper told us when asked why it’s always hoodie season, the truth is, “You can never go wrong with a hoodie.” So, if you’re feeling Hoodie House fomo because you didn’t hit up the fashion oasis this weekend, don’t worry, you can still find the perfect fit for weekend two.
