Levi's Denim for Aliens
Last year Kiko Kostadinov made Levi's denim fluffy. This year, the London label makes Levi's for aliens.
Note these intergalactic, transforming jeans are not the work of Mr. Kostadinov himself, but rather of the sisters in charge of his brand’s womenswear, Laura and Deanna Fanning. And they have left their literal stamp on the collection.
Specifically, a postal stamp all-over print covers both a belted jacket with an asymmetric zip and a pair of jeans that transform into flares when another zipper is, er, unzipped.
Look closely and you see many stamps from the Fanning sisters’ homeland of Australia alongside photos of their dog, Dante.
Look even closer, and you notice elbow darts providing sculptural volume to the sleeves of the jacket, curved panels of fabric meandering down the leg of the jeans, and tough stainless steel hardware.
Both the Levi's jeans and jacket are also offered without the postal print, instead made of a dramatically faded indigo wash denim.
The same light-wash denim also informs a pair of shorts, almost entirely enshrouded by an apron that thus creates a hybrid skirt, speaking to the impossible-to-generalize innovation innate to the Kiko Kostadinov brand.
All of this shape-shifting, all-over printed, and delicately washed denim will be available on September 12 via the Levi’s website.
