Double Tap to Zoom

This generation moves through everything with fractured focus: tabs open, notifications buzzing, attention constantly pulled in different directions. Even workouts, once seen as a space to disconnect, have become another arena for optimization, tracking, and performance pressure. Plans are strict, goals are measurable, and anything that breaks the rhythm can feel like failure. As you glide past your usual route’s on your usual run and the usual landmarks, you realize…  you’ve never strayed from the beaten path. Yet. But what if distraction didn’t have to be the enemy?

lululemon is here to inspire you to run the road less traveled with Club Detour. It’s not about beating your personal best or practicing your regular run—it’s a little more chaotic, a little curious, a little… “Type B”, let’s say?

On March 21, a group of 50 runners gathered at the Highsnobiety UdL space in the Mitte neighborhood of Berlin—not to race, not to compete, but to wander. Outfitted in lululemon’s finest latest run gear and guided (loosely) by lululemon ambassador and runner Marc Tortell, the run kicked off and slowly dissolved into something a bit more fluid. “I didn’t actually know the route, so I ended up leading while figuring things out as we went. I’m more the type to just go with the flow, but this time that was the flow, and it somehow worked”, Marc explains. A 6-7k route through side streets, where the only real goal is to keep going, and maybe get a little distracted along the way. Getting lost was not only allowed, but encouraged.

The first stretch felt like any other run: light pace, easy conversation, bodies warming up, but then the rhythm shifted. People started looking around more. Talking more. Noticing things. A turn here, a slower pace there. Running like this truly changes how you see a place. Maite Fonseca was among the runners, and the Berlin-based content creator and tattoo artist is not new to Type B running. “You discover so many small, quiet streets and local spots you’d never plan to visit. The kind of places you only find when you’re not trying to get somewhere quickly—those are always the best discoveries,” she explains.

The group stretched out, then came back together again. No pressure to keep up, no fear of falling behind. Then came the first stop along the route Studio Natura, where the group grabbed a natural juice or an energy shot to fuel them on their journey. “Somewhere between the first detour and a spontaneous chat with someone new, the pressure just disappeared. It turned into this shared, easy rhythm—more like exploring than competing,” Maite reflects. Marc felt that shift too. “What was especially unexpected is that not knowing the route didn’t make things stressful at all, it actually made the whole experience better. It brought everyone together and added to the fun instead of taking away from it,” he adds. “Also, bumping into the other group twice was fun.”

As a creative Type B runner, Maite likes to keep her running practice fun. “I let go of structure. I follow whatever catches my attention, whether that’s a new street, a great smell from a bakery, or a random turn that feels right.” For Marc, the approach is slightly different but lands in the same place. “When it comes to keeping my running routine fun, I actually enjoy doing the same routes over and over because it gives me a sense of calm. But with my team around me, it never feels repetitive. For me, it’s really about the people.”

The second stop on the run was where the “Choose-Your-Own-Adventure” aspect of the morning really took shape. At The Greens, a coffee and sandwich shop, the runners could indulge in some caffeine or a sweet treat while taking a little breather. Coffee orders mid-run? Matcha in hand while jogging? Sure, why not? At this point, logging miles was even less the objective than before. Marc even found a new favorite along the way. “The Greens in Berlin was a really nice surprise. I hadn’t been there before—it’s a bit hidden, but super cute. A place I’ll come back to.” The 6-7k became more of a loose suggestion than a goal. The experience was about moving through the city, not conquering it. Case in point: stop #3 was Café Fotografiska, for more sweets in the form of their world-famous Swedish pastries.

And when you’re running in lululemon’s Spring 2026 gear, it makes those little detours feel even better. Take the Swiftly Tech Long-Sleeve™ top, for example. It's designed with minimal seams, making it super comfy and breathable (and ready for a detour or two). The Silverescent™ technology keeps you feeling breezy, while the Fast and Free High-Rise Tight is engineered to move with you, whether you’re picking up the pace or slowing down to take in the sights. With prints like jacquard leopard and bold stripes, the gear lets you shine while still giving you the high-performance you need. “When I feel well-dressed, I automatically enjoy the run more,” Marc explains, and honestly, he has a point.

“It wasn’t about getting there,” Maite adds. “It was about everything we found along the way.” Club Detour made it possible to get a run in while training your attention to parts of your route you had maybe never noticed before. A little side street. A café you’ll come back to. A conversation you didn’t expect. And by the time everyone got back to Highsnobiety UdL, slightly sweaty, slightly caffeinated, and very much not thinking about finishing times, there was food waiting. Proper, hearty, healthy, well-deserved bites.

In a way, Club Detour was built for the easily distracted. For the ones who start a run and end up browsing a bookstore or sitting on a park bench contemplating life. For the ones who take the long way home just because it looks nicer. With the Berlin Half-Marathon becoming a city-wide momentous event, attracting participants from all over the world, the German capital has truly become a mecca for runners, both professional and more casual. It’s a great time to remember that there’s literally room for everyone—no matter your pace.
