Double Tap to Zoom

When 1017 ALYX 9SM founder Matthew M. Williams shared a closer look at a new Nike sneaker from his Paris Fashion Week SS20 runway show in late June, the full extent of that teaser went over everyone’s heads. The sneaker, unbeknownst to us all, features Nike’s all-new Joyride cushioning system.

Of course, the technology that reportedly took close to ten years to develop had not officially been unveiled last month. Now, though, following the official announcement yesterday, it makes sense that one of the brand’s most high profile collaborators would be one of the first to get to experiment with the brand new technology.

The new kick looks to be a training or running design that shows Williams’ penchant for technical details. The all-white mid-top features a synthetic upper with an asymmetrical lacing system and subtle Nike branding on the forefoot. The midsole, originally thought to be an EVA Phylon midsole due to its apparant lack of visible Air cushioning or React foam, features Joyride cushioning along the entire midsole.

Developed as an all-purpose running technology, Joyride is projected to make all types of runners better. Pods filled with thousands of beads work to cushion your stride, adapting to every runner’s own foot strike and providing a more responsive and personalized cushioning system. Find out more about it here.

Check out the sneaker in the images above and stay tuned for further information as it hits.
