Y'all know Nike's always got plenty o' sneaker-shaped pots on the stove. But Saturday, May 18, marked an extra special day for an extra special shoe that'll have '90s kids feeling an extra bit nostalgic.

Nike's Air Jordan 11 Retro Low "Space Jam" is back. It's not even the most hyped new (or new-old) shoe in Nike's footwear launch calendar but it is possibly the most classic of all recent Nike sneaker retros, especially considering how out-there some of the recent Nike drops have been.

Of course, the AJ11 "Space Jam" shoe is lovingly nicknamed after the cartoon/live action hybrid that helped popularize it off-court.

But wait, let's rewind: this shoe's black patent leather on white soles with deep blue detailing was initially designed for Michael Jordan himself in 1995, and made an appearance in the quasi-eponymous hit film in 1996, before becoming publicly available for purchase – and sought-after – by 2000.

All this to say, this is basketball footwear with significant pop cultural history, and thus a release anticipated by sports fans, Millennial moviegoers, and professional athletes alike – the latter perhaps most interestingly, as the success of the NBA-Looney Toons crossover, and Michael Jordan's involvement in it, would pave the way for players to migrate more thoroughly into entertainment.

So, yes, a wide launch of Nike's Air Jordan 11 Retro Low "Space Jam," available on Nike's site and select stockists, is something to celebrate.
