Despite originally being released as a women’s sneaker, Nike's P-6000 sneaker has become one of the brand’s quintessential all-purpose dad shoes. That chunky early 2000s-inspired build, an essential dad shoe ingredient, has seen the low-top sneaker almost accidentally grouped into the elderly running shoe category.

And why not? Built from a mashup of the Pegasus 2006 and Pegasus 25, the P-6000 does have the bones of a nostalgic Y2K dad runner.

This particularly handsome version of the Nike P-6000 sneaker, dressed in fuzzy grey suede with a rugged blue lower portion and yellow hits of contrast, doesn’t veer from the classic P-6000 shape.

However, it does switch out the usual fabrics.

Typically a mesh-heavy athletic sneaker, this "White/Thunder Blue" colorway retools the formula with beefier, trail-adjacent materials that give the otherwise functional-feeling shoe a bit of trek feel.

By swapping the lightweight mesh for brushed suede and a sturdier mudguard, Nike's latest P-6000 sneaker gives off some serious all-terrain energy.

It's a chunky dad runner turned outdoorsy dad sneaker. Still all-purpose shoe, just one with a bit of a utilitarian upgrade.

Speaking of which, the new P-6000 is in good company.

Nike has recently been filling its selection of hiking-friendly footwear with all manner of tasty new shoe styles, including the reborn Air Terra Humara, ACG Air Exploraid, and even the Vomero Roam, a similarly trek-focused remix of an otherwise familiar dad-ish sneaker.

But this shoe is releasing just in time for summer weather, at that. The “White/Thunder Blue” colorway of the P-6000 sneaker is available as of June 16 on Nike’s website
