Editor’s Notes: Nike has revealed its forthcoming Ultrafly silhouette, the label’s first ever carbon-plated trail shoe.

Dubbed as Nike’s “pinnacle trail racing shoe,” the sneaker has been tuned specifically to cater to the needs of trail runners who want to race and navigate the trails at a rapid pace.

The Ultrafly has been a longtime coming. In 2021, Nike designers began working closely with elite trail athletes (including renowned runner Tyler Green) to take learnings and tuning them to the unique needs of the trail runner.

The result? A carbon-plated trail super shoe like we’ve never seen before.

The Ultrafly joins Nike Trail’s extensive offering of running footwear and debuts many firsts for the line too. Recognizing the need for grip and traction on rough terrain, Nike joined with Vibram to incorporate their expertise into an exclusive sole design.

The Ultrafly’s outsole also features Vibram's Litebase technology, which offers trail runners a proprietary lightweight, agile outsole design with Vibram Traction Lug technology, and Vibram MegaGrip compound.

The pièce de résistance, however, is a carbon Flyplate, a first for a Nike trail sneaker.

Positioned between ZoomX foam and a fabric-wrapped midsole, the trio sits beneath a Vaporweave upper combined with classic collar construction, while the counter and fit system ensures lightweight comfort and reliability for miles of racing on the trails.

“I’ve put the shoe to the test across rocky terrain, hard climbs, fast descents and tough workouts,” said Green about the sneaker. “It’s exciting to see my perspective and feedback directly inform a product that will help all runners chase their goals on the trails.”
