Palace and Burberry’s Surprise Collab Is Peak British Banger

If you had any lingering doubts about whether Burberry is back, leave them at the door. Britain’s most storied British brand just dropped a banger of a surprise collaboration with fellow UK label Palace Skateboards that is so bloke, so beautifully British, it almost feels illegal. As an English colleague translated into his native tongue: “I need to splash my wonga on this clobber.”

Put simply, Palace x Burberry goes hard-hard. Partly because it’s one of those rare link-ups that feels like a no-brainer in hindsight, yet it came out of nowhere.

The 10-piece capsule features the requisite skateboards, baseball caps, scarves, and shirts with Burb’s check pattern and co-branding. But the big cheese of the bunch is an update on Burberry’s iconic Camden car coat, which has been covered in screen-printed illustrations of the British countryside and topped off with its OG Equestrian Knight mascot vaulting out of the Palace Tri-Ferg.

Chalk this up as yet another win for the label’s current creative director, Daniel Lee. Burberry works best when it remembers its Britishness, which is exactly the brand strategy that Lee has put into place since taking the helm in 2022. That’s translated into collaborations with iconic UK-based artists like textile designer Celia Birtwell, illustrator Sir Quentin Blake, and Young British Artist figurehead Gary Hume.

Even with Palace, it doesn’t feel like course-correcting after a rocky few misfires (the less said about its price hike to Chanel-level luxury, the better). Instead, it feels like a brand that’s got its confidence back.

Sure, Burberry has done the streetwear route before with its 2022 Supreme collab during the Riccardo Tisci era. But that was transatlantic. This hits different because it’s homegrown. A god-tier meal deal, if you will. Good news for Anglophiles, bad news for that rent check: the collection releases on November 5 at the new Palace London flagship.
