Not Even Reebok's Classic Tennis Sneaker Is Safe From the Snoafer Effect
It’s us, back again with another report of another snoafer in the ever-growing arena of sneaker-loafer hybrids. This time, it’s the evolution of one of the most timeless tennis sneakers.
The Reebok Club C was originally released in 1985 and has remained largely unchanged for over 30 years now. That is, before the arrival of the Reebok Club C Loafer.
Usually, when a brand opts to breathe new life into one of their most classic silhouettes, it begins with a subtle change. Swap a leather upper out for mesh, cut the heel off to make it a mule, or treat it to patina-style brush strokes.
Reebok skipped past these small alterations and went straight for the haymaker. Gone are the laces, replaced by a penny loafer vamp complete with glinting penny graphic.
The Reebok Club C Loafer drops in two distinctive colorways. One all black, and the other a two-tone affair with contrasting white and black panels in typical loafer style.
And look, we get it, sneaker-loafer fatigue is a real thing, and there will come a point when we’ve seen too many. But something about this drop suggests we’re not yet there.
It lies in the detailing. The immaculate moc toe addition, the way that the design incorporates the Club C’s sidefoot detailing into the vamp, or the glinting Reebok logo that lies in the penny slot: this is a cut above most other snoafers.
