Song for the Mute
1 / 5

To say adidas has been crushing the flat shoe game would be the understatement of the century. But now the brand's premier flat sneaker, the almighty Samba, is more than just crushing it. It's straight up collapsing.

In its latest collaboration with Australian fashion label Song for the Mute (SFTM), adidas took its most iconic flat sneaker and straight up pummeled it.

As aggressive as that sounds, this was the best thing the Three Stripes could have done for the signature shoe. It's no secret that the Samba went on a generational run. And it's also no secret that its popularity started to wane as a result.

That's not a reflection of the Samba, though. It's just par for the course when it comes to trends. That said, there are ways to resurrect over-exposed and underappreciated sneakers, and SFTM has cracked, or should I say, crushed the code.

SFTM's Samba, soon available on the adidas website, leans all the way into the concave sneaker trend with a crumpled-up heel that effectively transforms the sneaker into a mutable mule.

Obviously, hybrid sneakers are all the buzz right now, but what makes the SFTM Samba different is the functionality of its collapsible heel.

Unlike other hybrid sneaker-mules that fully chop off the backend, this Samba can still be worn as a sneaker as well as a slip-on.

In this day and age, if a sneaker doesn't have duality, what does it have?
