Vans' New Lifestyle Sneaker Is Surprisingly Wearable

What We’re Saying: Vans is best known for its staple, skate-ready silhouettes like the Old Skool, Sk8-Hi, Authentic, and Slip-On, just to name a few, but the California brand has been steadily cranking out new designs since its inception several decades ago. Yet still — for the most part — these core silhouettes remain the clear favorites from the ever-expanding Vans arsenal. This month, however, Vans is introducing an all-new sneaker that we believe warrants attention. Meet, the EVDNT UltimateWaffle, a lifestyle shoe informed by Vans Skateboarding technology.
Per the brand, the EVDNT is a first-of-its-kind lifestyle silhouette boasting UltimateWaffle construction and a translucent outsole that pairs a built-in UltraCush insole with an internal stabilizing shank to give the wearer enhanced cushioning and support. While the UltimateWaffle build makes the shoe noticeably comfortable for everyday wear, a LuxLiner interior then creates an ideal, sock-like fit. The upper of the EVDNT is comprised of knitted mesh, making it considerably breathable, as leather overlays and rubber accent pieces give the shoe a more pronounced form. Below, you will find a translucent outsole that essentially serves as eye candy, because who doesn't like a see-through element?
“The overall idea was to keep all the durability and function of a skate shoe and add the comfort and cushioning of an everyday shoe,” said Nathanial Iott, senior director of footwear design at Vans.
So not only does the EVDNT look good, but it is also highly functional, allowing you to lace it up day in and day out with little to no discomfort. To aid in versatility, the sneaker is initially rolling out in neutral schemes of grey and blue. Each pair is branded with a retooled version of Vans' signature Sidestripe to give it an iconic look.
For us, this is one of the first (all-new) Vans shoes we've come across in a while that we can certainly get into for everyday wear. If you're feeling it, too, you can pick up a pair when the EVDNT launches globally through Vans on June 11.
