Double Tap to Zoom

Not everyone trusts sales. Maybe it's because the sale section can feel like the corner of the store nobody actually wanted to look at. The weird sizes. The strange colors. The pieces everyone collectively agreed to leave behind. But once you start spending more time browsing luxury retailers, it'll dawn on you: these places carry way too much product nowadays for that theory to make sense.

Anyone on our team can attest to how some of the best things they've ever bought came from sale sections. Not because these were things that were deservedly cheap for looking less-than, but because they had to be dug up from under those that are.

And never has that been more true than now, with more product afloat than the mind can comprehend. So, as summer sales are kicking off everywhere, we spent hours clicking through them only to find out that half of this stuff looks better than the new arrivals... Enjoy!

The Best of the SSENSE Sale

What's best about SSENSE is that it still feels possible to unearth wholly unfamiliar items there. Most retailers are so tightly curated that you know exactly what you'll find before opening the page. SSENSE remains a bit eclectic, in that sense. One minute, you might be looking for jeans, but the next you're trying to justify a pair of Margiela Tabi Jazz shoes you somehow haven't actually seen ever before.

That's exactly what happened here: Next to said shoes, find a semi-sheer Ssstein knit that's perfect for summer evenings, and Acne Studios and Agolde denim that'll make you briefly reconsider every other pair in your closet.

The Best of the Mr Porter Sale

If SSENSE is where to go to discover things, Mr Porter is where to go when you want somebody else to make good decisions for you. No one leaves Mr Porter wondering what exactly they were just looking at. The store has always had a slightly more mature approach to menswear which makes browsing the sale section surprisingly... relaxing?

You find gems like a pair of Saint Laurent sunglasses that could easily survive ten summers; the type of Sebago boat shoe currently undergoing a well-deserved renaissance; a crisp shirt you'll end up wearing significantly more than whatever trendy thing you may have been originally searching for. There's something reassuring about a sale section where almost everything feels like a sensible purchase.

The Best of the Mytheresa Sale

Now, shopping the Mytheresa sales requires a slightly different mindset. The discounts are there, but on goods so expensive it'll still hurt to spend that money. That means concentrating on brands that rarely if ever miss, clearance or not. A brand like Lemaire. We love it, and even more when we don't have to pay full price for it.

What's surprising here isn't that Lemaire made its way into the sale section per se, but which pieces did: Not the leftovers or random accessories, but products that'd make people fall in love with the brand in the first place. And this is the case for plenty of other labels here too. So, if you've been waiting for an excuse to dip a toe into luxury at, this might be it.
